At the helm of our kitchen team is Executive Chef Aled Williams and Head Chef Charlie Rush. Our cooking is seasonal and generous, celebrating refined pub classics and dishes that have quickly become signatures of the house, all rooted in the ethos Tommy Banks has built. And then there’s the blackboard of specials that may only be with us for a day.

Our set menu is available Wednesday to Friday lunchtimes, and for early-bird diners Monday – Friday from 5.30-6.30pm.

Perfectly cooked meat, seasonal veggies and stuffed Yorkshire puds is what makes Sunday roasts at The General Tarleton so special. Available midday-6pm every week.

Steak Night
Wednesday nights are made for steak. Tuck into flat iron steak frites with green Madagascan peppercorn sauce for £26 at The General Tarleton.
FAQs
We believe everyone should feel comfortable when they join us. There is no dress code, so please dress as smart or as casual as you like.
Children and infants are welcome at The General Tarleton. We have a child-friendly menu for children under 12, but are delighted for them to choose dishes from the main menu, too. When booking, please mention the number of children in attendance (and please include them in your numbers!) plus any high chairs you may need.
Well behaved dogs are welcome in certain areas at The General Tarleton, including our pub, dining room and barn. Please do let us know when booking if you are bringing a dog so that we can allocate you a table accordingly.
We ask that dogs are kept on leads at all times whether inside or on the terrace. We also ask that you clean up after your dog during your visit.
Should your dog bark excessively or display aggressive behaviour towards other dogs or guests, we will ask that you remove them from the premises.
We offer vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free menus. We will always do our best to cater for most dietary requirements, but we ask that guests with very strict diets contact us via telephone or email in advance so we can discuss with our team.
Whilst we follow best practice at all times, we do like to highlight that all dishes are produced in an environment where allergens are also prepared and cooked. We cannot guarantee that the environment will be completely allergen-free.
The General Tarleton is an old, 18th century coaching inn with plenty of quirks, which means uneven surfaces, different floor heights and steps. We will make every effort to assist guests with limited mobility but, sadly, the premises is not wheelchair accessible. Unfortunately, due to the layout of the building, we do not have an accessible toilet on site.

Our pub is open to walk-ins, and we will always do our best to accommodate spur of the moment dining. We require a credit card to secure table bookings and request at least 48 hours notice of cancellation. No-shows or cancellations less than 48 hours in advance may be subject to a charge of £20 per person. All credit card information will be processed securely.
We have a 15 minute grace period. Please call or email us if you are running later than 15 minutes after your booked time.
