In support of Gaia’s Ride of Their Lives for Macmillan Cancer Support
This June, one of our own is doing something pretty extraordinary.
On 13 June 2026, Gaia (one of our brilliant Assistant Restaurant Managers who you may recognise!) will be back in the saddle at York Racecourse, taking part in the Macmillan Ride of Their Lives, a charity race marking 55 years of fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support.
After more than four years away from racing, this is no small return. Alongside working full-time here at the pub, raising her young son, and juggling life in all its fullness, Gaia is training for the ride while also aiming to raise £4,000 for Macmillan, a cause that means a great deal to her and her family.
Why it matters
This isn’t just about one race. It’s about backing someone in our team who is pushing herself in a big, brave way, and supporting a charity that shows up for people when they need it most.
For Gaia, the cause is also deeply personal. Her mother-in-law, Chris, is a breast cancer survivor, and seeing her journey firsthand showed just how vital Macmillan’s support can be, not just for individuals, but for the families around them too. With 1 in 2 people now affected by cancer, their work has never been more important.
